From 2011 to 2014, Harirod Group of Companies served as a key subcontractor to ITSI Gilbane, the prime contractor appointed for the construction and development of the Ministry of Defense Headquarters in Kabul. This high-security, large-scale project was part of the broader international and national effort to modernize Afghanistan’s defense infrastructure and establish a centralized command and administrative hub for the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF).

Scope of Subcontracted Work

Harirod was entrusted with a wide range of critical responsibilities within the scope of the project, including but not limited to:

  • Civil construction works including foundation, structural, and concrete works

  • Site preparation, grading, and excavation

  • Utility line installation including water supply, sewage, and stormwater systems

  • Perimeter security installations including fencing and controlled-access zones

  • Material procurement and logistics support, ensuring timely and quality-compliant delivery of construction materials

  • On-site coordination with international teams, project engineers, and U.S. military representatives

Project Overview

In 2013–2014, HARIROD Group of Companies successfully completed a landmark infrastructure project funded by UNOPS, involving the construction of key airport facilities in Bamyan Province. The project included the development of a Passenger Terminal Building, a Utility Building, and a Fire Station at Bamyan Airport—a strategic regional hub vital for civilian air transportation, emergency services, and humanitarian access in central Afghanistan.

This project was designed to enhance the airport’s operational capabilities, safety, and service capacity, aligning with international civil aviation standards and supporting regional development efforts.

Scope of Work

As the main contractor, HARIROD was responsible for the full lifecycle of construction activities, including:

  • Passenger Terminal Building:
    Construction of a modern, functional terminal facility equipped with arrival/departure areas, check-in counters, administrative offices, public waiting zones, and restrooms.

  • Utility Building:
    Development of a dedicated building for airport infrastructure systems including backup power generation, water storage, electrical panels, and maintenance space.

  • Fire Station:
    Construction of a fully equipped, ICAO-compliant fire station, complete with truck bays, rapid response equipment space, crew quarters, and communication facilities.

  • Site Development:
    Landscaping, parking areas, access roads, walkways, drainage systems, and fencing to ensure complete functionality and safety of the airport compound.

  • Utilities Installation:
    Electrical and mechanical systems, plumbing, and integration of emergency and communication systems in all structures.
