Project Overview

This high-impact infrastructure project was undertaken to establish a fully operational and modern regional airfield in Khost Province. It involved the design and construction of critical airport components, including a passenger terminal, control tower, aircraft apron, taxiway, and landside facilities. The development strengthens Afghanistan’s aviation network and promotes regional growth through enhanced air connectivity.

Scope of Works

The project encompassed the complete design and construction of air-side and land-side facilities to support full airport functionality. Key components included:

1. Terminal and Aviation Facilities
  • Construction of a new Passenger Terminal Building equipped to handle domestic flight operations

  • Construction of a modern Air Traffic Control Tower, ensuring operational safety and visibility

2. Apron and Taxiway Infrastructure
  • 79,650 m² Aircraft Apron, constructed using high-strength concrete to accommodate aircraft stands and ground servicing operations

  • Dedicated Ground Service Equipment (GSE) Road, integrated within the apron area

  • Taxiway Construction, linking the apron to the main runway via a high-quality asphalt pavement

3. Land-side and Support Areas
  • 8,400 m² Car Parking Lot, surfaced with durable asphalt to serve airport staff, passengers, and visitors

  • 1,000 m² Walkway Pavement, constructed with concrete to ensure safe pedestrian access

4. Civil Works and Utilities
  • Comprehensive earthworks including cutting and filling operations

  • Extensive reinforced concrete works, ensuring structural integrity across all components

  • Storm-water drainage systems, including construction of reinforced concrete box culverts

  • Pavement markings, saw-cutting of joints, cleaning, and joint filling, completed in accordance with international aviation standards

Concrete Utilized:

A total of 37,769 m³ of concrete was used for aprons, pavements, drainage infrastructure, and structural elements.
