Project Overview:

The Construction of the Multi Trade Institute (MTI) in Badakhshan was a significant initiative aimed at improving access to quality vocational and technical education in the northeastern region of Afghanistan. Funded by KfW Germany and overseen by PEM Consult on behalf of the Ministry of Education (DMTVET), the project focused on delivering a modern training facility to serve a wide range of technical disciplines.

As the Prime Contractor, our company was responsible for the full execution of civil works and construction of multiple educational, administrative, and support facilities. All construction activities adhered to international building standards, with a strong emphasis on structural integrity and seismic safety.

Scope of Work:

The scope of work included the construction of multiple purpose-built structures designed to international standards for safety and functionality. These comprised:

• Administration Building (805 m², 2 stories)

• Two Classroom Buildings (each 612.5 m², 2 stories)

• Male Dormitory (638 m², 3 stories)

• Sanitary Facilities: Male and Female Toilets (each 85 m²)

• Workshops:

  • Mechanic Workshop (455 m², 2 stories)

  • Automotive Workshop (288 m²)

  • Utilities Workshop (432 m²)

• Supporting Structures:

  • Technical Building (30 m²)

  • Deep Well House (25 m²)

  • Guard House (19 m²)

  • Kitchen Facility (72.9 m²)

All buildings were constructed with earthquake-resistant structural design, incorporating RFC-skeleton systems, profile steel sub-structure roofing, and trapezium sandwich panel coverings with a 7° slope. Additional features included PVC windows and steel doors, ensuring durability and safety.
