August 2025 – Kabul, Afghanistan
We are excited to announce the official groundbreaking ceremony for the 1 Megawatt (MW) Solar Power System at the French Medical Institute for Mothers and Children (FMIC) in Kabul — a landmark project that brings together clean energy and critical healthcare.
The ceremony was proudly hosted in the presence of high-level officials from both FMIC and Harirod Construction Company, the designated implementing partner for this initiative.
Project Overview
Awarded in March 2025, this on-grid solar system will be integrated with FMIC’s existing electrical infrastructure, significantly reducing reliance on diesel generators, lowering operational costs, and ensuring uninterrupted power supply for life-saving medical services.
“This project is a powerful step toward sustainable healthcare. It exemplifies our joint commitment to energy innovation and responsible construction,” said a Harirod spokesperson during the event.
Technical Highlights
- On-Grid Configuration: The solar system will operate in sync with the national power grid, maximizing energy availability and minimizing outages.
- Carport Solar Panels: A major portion of the panels will be installed over the hospital’s parking area, using carport-style structures that provide both shade and power.
- Rooftop Installations: Additional solar panels will be mounted on rooftops to fully utilize available space across the FMIC campus.
- Pre-fabricated Mounting Structures: All support structures for solar panels are pre-engineered abroad to international standards and assembled on-site with precision.
- Wind-Resistant Engineering: Structures are designed for maximum solar efficiency and durability, even in high-wind conditions.
- Timeline: The project is planned to be completed within 7 months, with a strong emphasis on timely delivery, quality workmanship, and budget adherence.
